Trump Haters and Binary Thought.
Trump Haters, you have a binary problem. Or perhaps, I should say that your problem is a binary way of seeing the current political landscape in general, or President Trump in particular. It’s love or hate. There’s no room for nuance, there’s nothing in between. Not for you.
To engage a Leftist is to become immediately acquainted with systemic projection. Allow me to illustrate. I know you Liberals love Barack Obama. I get it. Wait, let me rephrase that. You lllllooove Barack Obama. Like a grade-school age child licking an ice-cream cone. Yeah, I really do get it.
Obama – love and projection.
So, since you lllllooove Obama, you tend to project the same affection onto the average Trump voter. Seriously. You really think that Trump is our ice cream cone. It’s the message you’ve been sending since the summer of 2015.
Trying to explain to you Trump Haters the wide chasm between a Trump Voter and a Trump Supporter is like trying to explain the difference between Quantum Mechanics and Special Relativity to child still struggling with long division. So, I’m not going to do a deep dive here. Suffice to say that most Americans don’t share a frothing at the mouth hatred for Donald Trump regardless of the way they voted. That doesn’t make them “supporters.” It makes them rational actors who were presented with a dilemma and your good opinion didn’t play into the decision. Not one bit. Yeah, that stings, doesn’t it?
The Trump Haters Cognitive Dissonance.
The Left’s Biggest Problem With Trump? For all your over-the-top condemnations, you’re worse. And deep down, at the bottom of your self-loathing soul, you know it. You are a reflection of everything you say about him. But let’s presume that you are correct. That Trump is every bit the reprobate that you say he is. He’s coarse. Uncouth. And every time he goes on Twitter or appears in front of a friendly crowd (gasp, what did he just say?), those of us who pulled the lever for him cringe. I get it. But lost in all of this, is your failure to give me a better alternative. So I challenge you, as futile as it is:
Trump Haters, give me something better.
It should be easy, right? I mean it’s Trump.
Give me someone truly invested in the General Welfare.
Someone who doesn’t come with a pre-packaged sense of entitlement.
A person who can function when the mercury exceeds a blistering 69 degrees Fahrenheit.
Give me a candidate for the most powerful office on Earth who does not suffer from an obvious neurological disorder. And possibly more than one.
The Left Discovers Morals.
Insisting on restraint and respect will get no argument from me. Of course if you gave this one a pass, don’t expect me to buy into your new-found morality.
In the meantime, give me someone who doesn’t mistake a window for a door.
Give me someone with a little more economic literacy.
Someone without a criminal level of pessimism.
And show just a little consistency. Stop conflating bombast and exaggeration with pre-meditated lies on policy.
Someone who doesn’t confuse being a monster with being compassionate.
Come up with someone who doesn’t put his hands on children in public.
Or maybe someone who doesn’t completely lack grace? Remember when losing with a “a becoming grace” was a thing? I’m old enough, so I sure do.
Give me someone who doesn’t appeal to the worst within us, or incites the worst among us – someone who does not think that it’s just fine to harass people at dinner.
So, if you want to be taken seriously…
Stop your tornado of projection. Turn off the spigot on the toxic sanctimony and hypocrisy gushing from your pores. The stench has become all but unbearable for the rest of us. Now clean it up. Then give us something better.
Selah.
My thoughts on your thoughts, Phil…

My main quibble: the Left has always been moralistic. It’s just that they get to roll their morals on a whim, and the whims always server the acquisition of power.
Quibble aside, I really appreciate your thoughts.
