Impeachment, Pelosi, and A Strategic Perspective

Has Pelosi Lost Control, Or Is This By Design?

As a morality play, the impeachment kerfuffle of the last few months’ leaves little left to say.  The irony for Nancy Pelosi is a tragedy worthy of Shakespere.

The strategic facet?  Oh, I’m all over it.  All… over it.

Nancy Pelosi has clearly lost a step.  But she isn’t stupid, and in the era of the professional politician, that’s saying something.  It’s also one of the most puzzling aspects of all of this.  Allow me to repeat that: she’s not stupid.  And she’s prodigiously educated in power dynamics.

Impeachment Resolution

The youngest of seven children, Pelosi internalized the necessary political skills sitting at the feet of her father, Thomas D’Alesandro Jr.  The elder D’Alesandro sat in congress from 1939 through May of 1947. More significantly, he was Mayor of Baltimore from 1947 through 1959, when that actually meant something.

Chess can be fascinating – both as a game and as a metaphor.  When you’re as bad as I am at it, you content yourself with being an interested observer.  I’m at peace with it.

As an observer, Nancy Pelosi’s mis-steps through the current impeachment debacle read like the classic “smart person doing stupid things” trope.  I keep asking myself is she playing some king of 3-D chess?  Is impeachment some sort of brilliant mis-direction on her part?

Some Big-Picture Stuff First.

Strategy drives operations, and operations in turn drive tactics.  The overall objective of The Left – the dissolution of The United States as founded in 1776 and reformed in the 1860s – has been wildly successful.  The multi-generational strategy employed by The Left – a normalization of socialism and tyranny, is probably at the halfway mark.  The various operations in support of the overall strategy – sustained marching through and convergence of The Church, News, Entertainment, and Education – have gained enormous ground to the point where those gains are all but irreversible.

Politics on the other hand, remains in the balance.  Commissars still don’t follow free-thinking Americans into the voting booth.  Yet.  Of course, the political elites of The Left can and do rely on enormous support from the aforementioned institutions.  One’s vote is still one’s vote though, hence the election of Donald Trump.

Sun-Tzu Would Not Be Proud.

This all makes Pelosi’s tactics baffling.  There has clearly been a miscalculation, given the tone-deaf way in which the Democrats have lurched to the Left.  After decades of incrementalism, some of the more high-profile Statists clearly feel comfortable enough to let the mask slip.  Leftist politicians now boldly declare anyone who votes against them to be morally deficient.  Many advocate the confiscation of firearms in clear violation of the U.S. Constitution.  The Electoral College is viewed as a problem to be solved as opposed to a safeguard to be maintained.  Then there are the truly despicable who want to eliminate free speech.

Given this lack of message discipline, a dispassionate observer could easily conclude that Pelosi is somehow working for President Trump’s re-election.  OK that’s unlikely, which leaves us with one inescapable conclusion: she’s no longer calling the shots.  Not completely.  Which in turn, begs the question, “who is?”  My supposition: a little of everyone.

Committee To Re-Elect Donald TrumpYou could point to any number of people who are squeezing their way to the table.  George Soros, Ocasio-Cortez, Ilhan Omar, Ayanna Pressley, Rashida Tlaib, Tom Steyer, Sheldon Adelson, or anyone from the field of billionaire Democrat Donors.

That many chefs are bound to ruin the soup.  With enough voices calling for The President’s impeachment on the thinnest of pretenses, Speaker Pelosi clearly felt she needed to throw the snarling Rottweilers in her party a bone.  Yet, is so much more complicated than that.  She clearly wants Trump gone while maintaining her majority in the House, and she just as clearly cannot have both.  At this point given public sentiment, and her reluctance to decide between the two she may very well end up with neither.

Comedy Written As Tragedy.

History will not be kind to the epic farce that followed.  The nation saw first-hand the sinister yet inept management of committee chairmen Adam Schiff and Jerry Nadler in spite of their years of experience.  We observed rules of evidence and due process thrown out the window.  There were the testimonies from one “witness” after another, who at the end of the day had to confess to have witnessed… nothing.

Now we have Nancy Pelosi in a snare of her own making, refusing to send the articles of impeachment to the Senate lest they be gaveled away – not in mere acquittal, but in dismissal. Yes, President Trump was such an “existential threat” to national security that The House had to rush through the impeachment proceedings and then… wait.

The cost of this travesty may be dire for the Dems.  Is Trump playing Caesar to Pelosi’s Pompey?  Or worse for her, is he playing Caesar to her Pharnaces? We’ll find out when we take the only pol that matters on November 3rd.

Welcome to election 2020.

Selah.

Very well put together! I will Howard this to my mother in-law she will love to read it!

Extremely well written. No conservative hysterical ranting. True American insight and concern. Refreshing facts. Not political drivel.

Another very interesting and well written piece. I agree that Pelosi has lost control of the House. I would like to see Mitch McConnell just totally ignore it and continue with Senate proceedings and business until she decides to send the articles of impeachment over. He shouldn’t even acknowledge it, and definitely shouldn’t negotiate anything with her. I would like to see him state, rather matter of factly that the Senate will take it up and deal with it if and when Pelosi sends it over and leave it at that. She’s between a rock and a hard place.

I think Pelosi had nothing to lose. She is a moderate. The only Dem candidate that is a moderate is Biden and I think we all know Hunter Biden is going to bring his Dad down.
Pelosi wants to keep her job.

There is a lot of people talking about Paul Pelosi Jr right now and his business dealings in Ukraine. Not sure it is true but we need to find out. This would be very very bad for Nancy Pelosi. Maybe she is being blackmailed? She really does seem so off, with the praying, bible quotes, finger wagging. Sad way to end her long standing career in politics.
